It took seven months longer than planned, but it finally succeeded before the new season. The new rules for boating on the Berzdorfer See have been approved. In other words, it is now clearly specified what can be done on the waters of the lake, what type of boat can sail, when and where. The Landesdirektion of Saxony announced in a press release that the new rules for the use of watercraft will enter into force immediately.
The regulations say, among other things, that from now on, boats with engines are allowed. This was the reason for frequent quarrels between water sports enthusiasts and ecologists. However, it wasn’t the reason for the delay. Rather, the LMBV (Lusatian and Central German Mining Society) and anglers who repeatedly challenged the decision of August 2022.
“The withdrawal of the objections is the result of numerous discussions between LMBV and the Landesdirektion of Saxony,” reads the press release. It was agreed, among others, that the General Order should be preceded by a preamble. It emphasises once again that LMBV has priority to carry out work on the lake, resulting from the possession by LMBV of permits and obligations for water and mining activities.
